Ellen Elsie Raybuck, age 95, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 18, 2016, at the McKinley Health Center at Laurelbrooke Landing in Brookville. She has finally joined her many family and friends already with God in Heaven. She was born on June 6, 1920, to the late Elmer and Elsie Bailey in New Bethlehem, PA. On April 13, 1946, she married Wilbert Henry Raybuck; Wilbert preceded her in death on March 6, 1986. She turned 24 years old when her fiancé and future husband landed on Utah Beach on D-Day.Ellen's mother (Elsie) died when Ellen was fifteen years old; she then stayed with and took care of her grandmother, Catherine (Space) Fowkes, until Catherine's death in 1949. This would begin a lifetime of caring and helping those who were sick and in need, including Wilbert's mother, Ella (Hetrick) Raybuck, and finally her late husband Wilbert. After her grandmother's passing, they lived at the Raybuck family farm on Pansy Hollow Road, in Summerville PA, where they did active farming until the early 80's. Family remembers her working with her husband and helping dig 60 bushels of potatoes in a bumper year in 1982. She was a very giving person and cared for others, and never worried about herself. She loved her family very much and especially liked the holidays when families would gather together. Her chocolate chip cookies are forever remembered by anyone who visited at Christmas.Ellen survived her husband by thirty years, beginning a new chapter in her life. She lived for twenty years on Ridge Avenue in Brookville, and attended Grace Lutheran Church with her friends Merle and Kathryn Spangler. She also stayed with her friend MaryLu Boddorf for a time; and moved to Brookside Senior Living until 2013. Ellen appreciated visits from friends and always had a smile for family and all who stopped by. She lived at Laurelbrooke Landing and was always sitting with others by the fireplace, making many new friends there, and greatly enjoying being with others during her last few years. She had her faith in Jesus. Ellen attended many church services at Laurelbrooke with Pastor J. Ray Baker, along with participating in all activities there.Ellen is survived by 2 children: Kenneth L. (Karen) Raybuck of Butler, PA, and Janet E. (Jack) McBride of North Wildwood, NJ; 6 grandchildren: Jason Raybuck, Ashley (Wilson) Strother, Aaron Raybuck, Benjamin Raybuck, Sarah McBride and Sean McBride; 2 great-grandchildren: Angelo Wilson and Courtney Wilson; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
