Ellen DeCroy Hess passed away on September 27, 2016 in her home in Bishop, CA with her family by her side. She was the daughter of Irene Thompson and Ed DeCroy and was born on October 9, 1936 in Smith Valley, NV. She had eight children, seven girls and one boy. She spoke fluent Paiute and was very proud of her heritage. She spent her entire youth at the Stewart Indian Boarding School in Carson City, NV. She is preceded in death by her mother, Irene Thompson; father, Ed DeCroy; brother, Duane DeCroy; sister, Idelle DeCroy; daughters, Althea and Cheryl Conway and grandson Richard Conway. She is survived by her loving husband, Don Hess; her brother, Benny DeCroy; her son, Galen Conway (Marlene Coronel); her daughters, Jocelyn Conway, Donna Pueblo (Leonard), Tanzi Hess, Tara D.H. John (Darrell), and Karen Hess (Jim Hoff); her granddaughters, Tawisha, Shalinda, Kimberly Dennis, Rachel and Tenaya Motley; grandsons, Gerald Andreas and Joseph John; Great grandson, Ethan Etumulak, Israel Dennis, and Dominick Savala, Jr. And many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the home nurses with Toiyabe Indian Health for their excellent and professional care and support provided to the family during this difficult time. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Barlow Gym on October 9, 2016 at 11 AM. A potluck reception will follow the memorial service.
