Beyer, Ellen Sophia (Buss)Ellen Sophia Beyer, age 96, passed away into the loving arms of her Savior at Century Oaks Assisted Living, Appleton, on Wednesday, November 9, 2016.Ellen was born on May 8, 1920 in the Town of Freedom to the late Fred and Adeline (Scheibe) Buss. She lived in the Town of Freedom for 20 years moving to Appleton in 1940. She attended Highland Public grade school and was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Town of Freedom. On June 19, 1943 she married Arthur Beyer and they enjoyed 44 years together with Art preceding her in death on May 17, 1988. Ellen and Art farmed in the Town of Center until they moved to Appleton in May, 1956. Ellen lived in the home they purchased until she moved to Ridgeview Senior Apartments in July, 2003.Ellen worked at Zwicker Knitting Mills for 30 years, first in the mill making gloves and mittens and then in the office. After retirement in 1985 she volunteered her services at many establishments. She volunteered 8 years at M & I Bank, was an apple peeler at Fox Valley Lutheran High School, volunteered at the Bargain Garden Thrift every Wednesday for over 20 years. She was a faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church since 1956 and served Bethany in many different areas. This included the Banner Committee, Altar Guild, money counters, Ladies Aid, serving meals at funerals and anywhere else she was needed. She even volunteered her services at Century Oaks up until 11 days before her passing. Also in her retirement she crotchet many afghans for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as many dish cloths and covering over 3000 clothes hangers. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and family, reading, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Ellen is survived by a son, Glenn (Norma) Beyer, Yulee, Florida and a daughter, Nancy (Bruce) Lillge, Appleton; seven grandchildren, Suzie (Chris) Cassel, Sherry (Tim) Machtley, Cindy (Robert) Hamrick, Michele Bohman, Mike (Heather) Lillge, Mark (Jenny) Lillge, and Melissa Priebe; 17 great-grandchildren, Tim (Karissa) Cassel, Linda and Danielle Cassel, Megan and Sarah Machtley, Andrew, Josh, Alyssa, and Savannah Hamrick, Erik and Evan Bohman, Amanda and Rachel Lillge, Jacob and Gracie Lillge, Cashton and Coy Priebe, and a great-great-granddaughter, Elena Sophia Cassel. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arthur, a grandson, Timothy Beyer, two brothers and sisters in law Victor (Erma) Buss, Lawrence (Eleanor) Buss; sisters and brothers in law, Gertrude (Milton) Knaack, Ethel Timm, Mildred (Ervin) Arnold, Marjorie (Gilbert) Melchert. She was also preceded in death by Art's parents, August and Elizabeth (Wichman) Beyer and Art's brothers and sisters and their spouses.The Christian funeral for Ellen will be held at 11am on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 530 W. Parkway Blvd. in Appleton with Rev. Zach Gebert officiating. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Monday at 9am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to Bethany Lutheran Church or Fox Valley Lutheran High School. The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to all the caregivers at Century Oaks which was Ellen's home since July, 2015 and a very special thank you to Ann. Ellen was loved by all the caregivers and friends she made while living at Century Oaks. She will be truly missed by her family and friends. She was a very special lady and will be cherished in the hearts of all who knew her.
