Lieutenant Colonel Elliott Bunyan Black, Jr., age 97, died peacefully at home on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in River Ridge, LA. The son of Elliott Bunyan and Alice James Black, he was born on June 17, 1919 in Lynn, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth "Billie" Wood Black, his parents, and his siblings, Dr. Charles Lester Black, Ena James Black Williams and Elizabeth Black McDaniel. He is survived by his two sons, Dr. Elliott B. Black, III and Dr. John Paul Black, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved him dearly. He was a veteran of three wars and was proud of his military service. During World War II, he flew "the Hump" and was a last surviving member of The China-Burma-India Hump Pilot Association. He maintained a friendship with his fellow Hump pilots throughout his life. He will be buried at Biloxi National Cemetery. The family would like to thank Hanna Denny and Cindy Lyold of On Time Caring, his physicians, Dr. Kiran Zaveri, Dr. James McCullough, Dr. Matthew Schuette, and Dr. Glenn Kelley for excellent and compassionate care. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, October 31 at 10:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30AM at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, 10021 Jefferson Hwy, River Ridge, LA 70123.
