BRIGHAM CITY - Ellis Daniel Bilbao, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away June 22, 2010, peacefully at his home in Brigham City, Utah, after a valiant and courageous 32-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Ellis was born on Sept. 12, 1926, in Kenilworth, Utah. He was the second of four sons born to Olva and Daniel Bilboa.Ellis married his sweetheart, Laura "Lolly" Crandall, on Oct. 2, 1946, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He lived in Kenilworth, where he attended first grade, and then moved with his family to Vineyard, Utah. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1944, in Orem, Utah. He joined the Air Force immediately after graduating from high school and trained as a B29 flight engineer in Bozeman, Mont., and Amarillo, Texas. He received his BS degree in electrical engineering from Brigham Young University. He later earned a master's degree in engineering administration from University of Utah. He worked at the Geneva Steel Plant in Vineyard for 10 years and Atomics International in California for four years. He worked at Thiokol for 30 years and retired in 1989 as director of the Test Department. Ellis was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in the High Council and many bishoprics including bishop of the Brigham City 19th Ward. Ellis deeply loved his wife and family and took wonderful care of everyone. He had a brilliant mind and skills in many areas. There wasn't anything that he could not do. He was loved and respected by many. He was kind and generous and wanted to help anyone in need. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and scouting, especially canoeing the Snake River with the Scouts. He received the Silver Beaver award for his many years of Scouting service. He loved to work and organize projects. He was an avid Jazz fan. Most of all, he loved going to the family cabin at Bear Lake and being with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Laura, son Lee (Shelley) Bilbao, Ann Longhurst, both of Brigham City, Linda (Louis) Christensen, Tremonton, and Steve (Roxanne) Bilbao, Logan; brothers Ramon (ReNae) Bilbao, Orem, and Roy Gene (Janette) Bilbao, Tooele; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olva and Daniel Bilbao; brother Jack; and son Alan.The family gives special thanks to Catarina Gonzales, Don Peart and other caregivers and friends for their kind and compassionate care of Dad.Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 26, 2010, at noon in the Brigham City 19th Ward Chapel, 105 Fishburn Drive.Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, and on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:40 a.m. at the church.Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donate to the Parkinson Foundation.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com.
