Ellis LaHoodAlexandria - Services for Ellis J. LaHood will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral with Father James Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.Ellis J. LaHood, age 92, of Alexandria passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Rapides Regional Medical Center. Ellis was born on October 26, 1924, in Mansfield, Louisiana, and grew up in Alexandria graduating from Bolton High School. He was a Navy veteran having served in communications as a radio man aboard ship in the Pacific Ocean during
World War II. Upon returning home, he attended
Louisiana State University. He was a businessman in the coin operated laundry business and owned real-estate. In his early years he was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church, and after the church burned, he began attending St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. Ellis enjoyed the game of golf and was one of two surviving charter members left out of sixteen who founded Rapides Golf and Country Club. He also enjoyed playing gin rummy with his buddies. Ellis is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Lucille "Hop" LaHood; his parents, Rumza and Romanous LaHood; one brother, George LaHood, Sr.; and two sisters, Edna Bella and Eunice Antoon. He is survived by one son, Gary LaHood of Pineville; one daughter, Susan Bynog of Pineville; his grandchildren, Brandon LaHood of Asheville, NC, Anna Hill (Harold) of Pineville, and Kristin Nixon (Will) of Pineville; and 4 great grandchildren. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be: Robert Antoon, Tommy Antoon, Rodney Davenport, Roger Deville, Frank Dies, Steve Ellzey, Bob Geddie, Greg Gormanous, Al Hebert, Mark Herron, Butch Mahfouz, Dusty Nassif, Brian Saybe, Ellis Saybe, and Paul Seeser. The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Screpetis, Dr. Llyas Chaundhry, and Dr. Mohammad Shbeeb who with God working through them helped extend dad's life.
