Elma M. (Tollefson) Hansen, 96 of Lynnwood, WA was born on October 19, 1916 in a tent on her Aunt Christine's farm in Silvana, WA to Bert and Elvina Tollefson. She died at home on October 16, 2013 with her family at her side. Elma graduated from Marysville High School in 1934 and married Otto C. Hansen on October 20, 1934. They were married for 71 years before his passing in August of 2005. She is survived by her children, Harry Hansen of Arcadia, CA and JoAnne Shoemaker of Edmonds, WA. She was loving grandmother to three: Christine Barnes, West Linn, OR; Dan Mitchell, Lynnwood, WA and Erick Hansen, Santa Clarita, CA. She also leaves five great- grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and her siblings: Herb Tollefson, Tacoma, WA; Alice Gustafson, Los Altos, CA and Claire (Bill) Weed, Snohomish, WA. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lillian Smith. Elma worked in the shipyards in Seattle during WWII. She joined the Allied Metal Crafts Union, Local #66 in 1943 and worked in the sheet metal industry until retirement. Elma was a proud Norwegian and decades long member of the Sons of Norway. She was able to visit Norway three times in her adult life She will be fondly remembered by those who knew her for her love of family and neighbors, her boundless energy and no nonsense ways. She tended her meticulous flower, vegetable and fruit gardens until this year when she was reluctantly forced to give up those chores. She will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. A celebration of her life will be held at the home of her daughter, JoAnne Shoemaker on Saturday, October 26th at 1 p.m. 8808-184th St. SW, Edmonds, WA.
