Elsie was born on September 11, 1921 on the family farm near Woodrow, Saskatchewan and lived many years of her life in the Woodrow area. She married Ewalt Engel in 1943. They worked the family farm together until their retirement in 1990. In 1976 Ewalt and Elsie built their retirement home in Regina, and they commuted to the family farm for the farming season until their retirement. Elsie was very generous and dedicated to her church where she sang in the choir and a trio. She also loved to teach Sunday School. Elsie was interested in politics and enjoyed going to the Legislature to see her nephews, MLA Allen Engel and MLA Eldon Lautermilch, in action. Elsie had many hobbies including knitting and crocheting and all family members would be wearing the sweaters that she made. She loved to entertain and cook, preparing the German dishes that everyone loved. She was a great baker and was well known for her cinnamon rolls and buns. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Parkside Extendicare (North Wing) and to Golden Years Manor for taking such good care of Mom over the last few years.
