Elsie Irene (Everts) Goodwin, 94, of Liberty, MO, passed away on December 8, 2016 at the Liberty Hospital. She was born on November 21, 1922 near Centerview, MO. Elsie graduated from Centerview High School in 1940 and attended Central MO State Teachers' College in Warrensburg, MO. Her first year of teaching was all eight grades in a one-room country school in Johnson County, MO. She was united in marriage on October 30, 1943 to George E. Goodwin and moved to Liberty, MO and raised a family. She was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church, was the first secretary at the Lewis and Clark Elementary School in Liberty, and was a Cub Scout leader. Elsie enjoyed many crafts, including woodworking, caning chairs, sewing and making quilts. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Sam and Addie Everts, her sister, Etha Andruss and her husband, George E. Goodwin, who passed away on February 10, 1987, after 44 years of marriage. She is survived by her sons, Daryl R. Goodwin and daughter- in-law, Kathy Goodwin and Dennis K. Goodwin and daughter-in-law, Jan Goodwin, all of Liberty; two grandsons, John Goodwin (Charity) and Brian Goodwin; two great-grandsons, Taylor Goodwin (Angela) and Jason Goodwin; and niece, Darla Waddle (George). Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Monday, December 12, at the Park Lawn Northland Chapel with Pastor Jack DeWees officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm preceding the services.
