Elvira Heredia Aguiar, 92, died peacefully in her home in the presence of her loving family on July 24, 2015. She was born on May 24, 1923, in Superior, Arizona, to Exiquio and Catalina (Beckom) Heredia. Elvira was married to Santiago Aguilar Aguiar for 56 years. Elvira's greatest passions were her love of the Lord, her family and the church community. She enjoyed homemaking and spending time with her daughters, her sons-in-law and her grandchildren. As a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, she devoted many hours as a parishioner, to the Legion of Mary and the Hispanic Youth Ministry. As a Eucharistic Minister she tended to the needs of parishioners unable to attend mass and also assisted during mass as needed. Elvira is survived by daughters, Delia Bernal (Andrew), Mary Barajas (Luis) and Martha Gonzalez (Ted); grandchildren, Christina, Daniel, Alicia, Teddy, Andy, Marissa, Nick and David. She is also survived by the loving children of her late sister, Eppie: Rose Marie Laird, Gloria Mendoza and Tony Moreno. Elvira was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and eleven brothers and sisters. Services will be held on Monday, August 3, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi Church 1815 S. 8th Avenue, Yuma, Arizona, with visitation at 10:00 a.m., Rosary at 10:30 a.m. and Mass at 11:00 a.m. Elvira will be buried alongside her beloved husband at Desert Lawn Memorial Park 1415 S. First Avenue in Yuma. Memorial contributions are welcomed at St. Francis of Assisi Church and also at Hospice of Yuma.The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of Yuma for their help and support and also to her caregivers, Guadalupe Hernandez, Ana Figueroa and Patricia Cordova.
