ELWOOD 'WOODY' STRONG, 72 FREEPORT - Elwood "Woody" Strong, 72, of Freeport, died Sunday, February 9, 2014, at FHN Memorial Hospital. Elwood was born on August 20, 1941, in Freeport, the son of Clark and Gertrude (Tamling) Strong Sr. Elwood married Judith A. Grunder on February 24, 1962, in Freeport. He worked for Micro Switch for over 42 years, retiring as a group leader in 2001. Woody enjoyed bowling, dancing, and playing cards. His most enjoyable times were spent with family and friends. His nieces and nephews were always special to him. Surviving are his wife, Judith Strong of Freeport; sister, Marie Sager of Freeport; sister-in-law, Viola Strong of Stockton. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and other family members. Mr. Strong was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Clark Jr. and Richard. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Pastor Kurt Strong will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m., also at Burke Tubbs.
