Emelia LeBlanc Bourque, R.N.wife of George J. Bourqueformer Mayor of the City of Fitchburg and State Representative; 102 FITCHBURG, MA -- Emelia L. Bourque, 102 of Fitchburg, MA, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon October 31, 2016 at the Highlands with her family at her side.Emelia was born on December 17, 1914 in Dorchester, New Brunswick the eldest of 8 children born to Blair and Bessy LeBlanc. When she was 5 years old her father moved the family to Fitchburg where he found work in a woolen mill repairing looms and she remained a lifelong resident of the city.An excellent student Emelia graduated from Fitchburg High School at age 15 and then Burbank Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1937.Emelia will be remembered for her inherent kindness, warm generous heart and positive attitude. Her home was a welcoming gathering place for relatives, friends and neighbors. She was involved in many community organizations where she showed her leadership. including the Girl Scouts, Burbank Hospital, librarian at St. Joseph Elementary School, St. Joseph Parish Council, Fitchburg Guild Holy Family League of Charity, Jeanne D'Arc Circle Daughters of Isabella and the Right to Life Movement for which she volunteered at the Family Life Center.Emelia's energy and supportive role in her husband's political career was unshakeable from writing lists of telephone numbers for volunteers to call, to tracking votes in the various wards to taking messages from numerous constituents.Her husband George J. Bourque the love of her life for 73 years predeceased her in 2011. She is survived by four children, Elizabeth Bourque-Theiler and her husband, Willie of Holliston; her three sons: George J., II of Gardner; William and his wife, Linda of Fitchburg; and Robert L. and his wife, Mary of Townsend. Her daughter Barbara, Mrs. Bernard Therriault predeceased her in 2007. She has nine grandchildren; Brenda Korwan, Susan Cheesman, Brian Therriault, Janna Jewett and Zachary, Nathan, Jonathan, Benjamin, Caitlin Bourque as well as eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Ann Croteau and numerous nieces and nephews.BOURQUE -- In lieu of flowers the family request donations are made to the George J. and Emelia L. Bourque, Memorial Scholarship Fund established for graduating seniors of Fitchburg High School, St. Bernard's High School and Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School.Donations may be sent to: IC Credit Union Attention: Elizabeth Slattery, 300 Bemis Rd., Fitchburg, MA 01420.Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 49 Woodland St. Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Nov. 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Isabelle & Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St.
