Emil James RobertsMarch 28, 1930 - January 18, 2013Emil James "Jim" Roberts, 82, of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, passed away after a valiant battle with cancer, on Friday, January 18, 2013, with his wife at his side.He was born on March 28, 1930 in Ogden, Utah, to Emil and Pauline Balmas Roberts. Jim was raised and attended schools in Ogden, Utah and graduated from Weber High School in 1948.Jim served 6 years in the U.S. Navy. He served in Guam, Japan and Korea as Ordinance Man Aboard flights and Sergeant at Arms Abroad the U.S. Philippine Sea.After separation from the Navy, he lived and worked in Southern California as a telephone repairman. He and his brother, Bert, owned a 5 passenger Cessna, T-50 which they flew from California to Utah and back.He married Donna Gray on February 21, 1957. They were later divorced. He married Linda Crowton Combe on December 10, 1982.Jim was an avid horseman and enjoyed raising and training quarter horses and paints. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and snowmobiling. He had the first ski-doo snowmobile in Utah.He spent most of his adult life in the Ogden Valley where he farmed and worked for the Communications Office at Defense Depot Ogden. He and his wife, Linda moved to Sharon, Idaho in the Bear Lake Valley in 1995 where they enjoyed raising horses and exploring the back-country roads. Jim and Linda moved to Lava Hot Springs in 2007 where they spent many happy hours on their deck watching the wildlife along the Portneuf River. Jim is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Heidi (Jay) Hadley, Clay Roberts, Bruce Combe, Steve (Rhonda) Combe, Mark (Monica) Combe; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two nieces, two nephews and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bert and sisters, Henrietta Compton, May Colvin and Fay Pendleton.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. at the mortuary.Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
