Emma Merrill Webber, 97, died on Sunday, October 4, 2015, at her home in Petaluma, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband James Webber, 1992, her son John Webber, 1963 and her daughter Mary Webber, 2000. She is survived by her son James Webber Jr, daughter Laura Pierce, granddaughter Emma Logan and grandson Will Pierce.
Smart, inquisitive and energetic, Emma lived a life of many adventures; from being the youngest child of Missionary parents in Burma, growing up in the Fanny Doane Home in Granville, Ohio, to capturing the heart of her handsome adventurer, Jim Webber. Married in 1939, they moved out West to Oregon, taught flyers in the Army Air-Corps during WWII, started Webber Air Service in Ketchikan, Alaska, after the war, and moved to Terrace BC, Canada in the 50’s to start Webber Lumber Co. Ltd. By this time, they had 4 children and raised them to be independent individuals. Leaving BC for California after Jim’s debilitating illness; Emma attended UC Berkeley to finish her degree and earn a teaching certificate. A popular teacher at Petaluma High School from 1962 – 1972, Emma retired so she and Jim could start a final adventure together; building their dream home in Tingambato, Michoacan, Mexico. After Jim’s death, Emma focused on her art of making braided rugs and hooked wall hangings.
