The Lord Jesus called Era LaVerne Holley "Nana" Hayes to her heavenly home on May 7, 2016, in Yuma, AZ.LaVerne was born on September 18, 1922 in Waco, Texas, to Nona Loy Holley and William Holley. She received her education and graduated from high school in Waco. After life as a military wife, she and her husband retired to the mountains northwest of Lyons, CO, and ultimately to Yuma. Her life can be memorialized by selected passages in Proverbs 31."A good wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels" LaVerne married Warren Hayes in Waco on March 6, 1944 and they celebrated their 60th anniversary several months before Warren's death."Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come". The day after their wedding, the couple boarded a troop train, bound for Denver, CO. She served her country valiantly for 27 years as a US Air Force wife."She looks well to the ways of her household". During her husband's deployments during WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam War, she was left alone to manage her household, with no relatives near for assistance, but continued to provide loving care and support to her daughters."Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her." LaVerne and Warren had two daughters, and one son (in- love). She was a devoted mother and "Nana". She passed along to her girls the love of music, good literature, nature and wildlife, and art. She was a gifted painter and taught handcrafts to her daughters and granddaughter."She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." LaVerne was blessed with many friends because she WAS a friend to many. But most importantly, "a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." In Yuma, LaVerne and Warren were active members of Christ Lutheran, Calvary Lutheran, and Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran. LaVerne became a member of Reformation Lutheran Church."Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all"LaVerne is survived by daughters, Sandra Hayes and Pamela (Mike) Dusek, of Yuma;Grandchildren, Heather (Roy) Krakat, of Baltimore, Md, Matthew (Mindy) Dusek, of Yuma, Joel (Cherie) Dusek, of Aurora, CO, Timothy (Heidi) Dusek, of Port Orchard, WA, Nathan (Amy) Dusek, Mark (Jamie) Dusek, both of Yuma, Seth (Deanna) Dusek of Cave Creek, AZ, and Duane "Duke" Lipps of Longmont, CO.
