HOWE — Ergle Calhoun, 88, of Howe, Indiana, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at his home with his loving wife of 60 years by his side. Mr. Calhoun was born on Oct. 17, 1927, in Hindman, Kentucky, to Joe and Mallie (Terry) Calhoun. Ergle loved the Lord, his family and all of God's people. Serving the Lord and seeing the lost saved was his true calling. At the beginning of his ministry, he helped in building churches and felt called to evangelize and travel around the area preaching the Gospel. He helped establish multiple churches and break down walls of division. Later in life, he became the pastor of the Brimfield Revival Center where he served for seven and a half years. Mr. Calhoun worked as a welder at Harter Group in Sturgis, Michigan, for several years. He was a member of the New Freedom Baptist Church in LaGrange, Indiana. A United States
Army veteran, he served during the
Korean War. On May 12, 1955, in Wolcottville, Indiana, he married Rinda Marie Polly. Mrs. Calhoun survives in Howe, Indiana. Surviving are his children, James David (Jana) Calhoun of Clarksville, Arkansas, Danny Calhoun of LaGrange, Indiana, Samuel Wayne (Joy) Calhoun of Kokomo, Indiana, Debra Lunger of LaGrange, Indiana, Randy Lee (Pat) Calhoun of Marion, Ohio, Carl (Jacalyn) Calhoun of Wolcottville, Indiana, and Jeffrey Allen Calhoun of San Francisco, California; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Barbara (Carl) Ritchie of Kendallville, Indiana, Louvena (Stewart) Mitchell of Kendallville, Indiana, and Jeanette Kassee of Stroh, Indiana. His parents, Joe and Mallie Calhoun; two sisters, Janice Calhoun and Violet Jenkins; and two brothers, Virgil Calhoun and Earl Shepherd; preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, at 11 a.m. at New Freedom Baptist Church, 300 N. Sycamore St., LaGrange, Indiana. The Revs. Wade Sturdivant, Purda Hicks, and Brett Frick will officiate the services. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange, Indiana. Visitation will take place on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, from 4-7 p.m. at New Freedom Baptist Church. A service will begin at 7 p.m. following the visitation. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.
