Press, Dr. Erich PeterDr. Erich Peter Press, age 85, a Two Rivers resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Aurora Medical Center of Manitowoc County.Erich was born on October 26, 1931 in Rumford, ME, son of the late Henry C. and Maria (Drozniakiewics) Press. He was a graduate of Stevens High School in Rumford, ME, with the class of 1949 and later a graduate of Marquette Dental School in Milwaukee, WI, in 1956. On September 5, 1953 he married the former Olive M. Salmeen at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Neenah, WI. He served with the U.S. Army from 1956 - 1960 with the U.S. Dental Corps in Neubrucke, Germany. After moving to Two Rivers in 1960, Erich owned and operated his family dental practice for 39 years. He was a 55 year member of the Lion's Club as well as a member and past president of the Lakeshore Curling Club. Erich was a very active member at Calvary Lutheran Church of Two Rivers, where he was a former council president, choir member, director of the youth group and a long time acolyte. Erich was a member of the Manitowoc County Dental Association and active with the Friends of Camp Sinawa. He received the first Small Business Award from the Chamber of Commerce and served as an ambassador as well. Erich was a huge supporter of the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra, Lakeshore Wind Ensemble and Masquers. He received a leadership award from the Manitowoc County, WI volunteers and also received the Political Action Award from the Dental Association. Erich and his wife Olive were charter members of the Two Rivers Swim Club. In his free time, he loved fishing, camping and spending time with his family.Survivors include his wife: Olive M. Press, Two Rivers; three children: Erich P. (Susan) Press II, St. Louis, MO, Mark L. Press, Ten Mile, TN, Linda M. (Victor) Mattes, Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren: Erich P. (Jamie) Press III, Will C. Press, Heidi C. Press, Dr. Andrew L. Press, Dr. Robert H. Press, LCDR Benjamin A. (Shawna) Mattes, USN, Capt. Peter W. Mattes, USAF, Theodoric A. (Rachel) Mattes, Kathryn M. Mattes and fiancé ENS Chad Munk, USN; one sister: Louise Aylward, Neenah; his office assistant of 25 years: Suzette Becker, Two Rivers; and their unofficial adopted grandchildren: Matthew and Jonathan Becker, Two Rivers. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law: Olive Yahr; his father-in-law: Nilo Salmeen; and two brothers-in-law: William Aylward and Nilo Salmeen Jr.Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Vicki Fink with cremation to follow at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc.The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Klein and Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The visitation will continue on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, Two Rivers Lion's Club and the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra.Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.kleinandstangel.com.The Klein and Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
