Ernest G. Martinez, 70, a lifetime resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe.He was born on Dec. 24, 1944 in Las Vegas to his parents Jesus J. Martinez and Annie Rodriguez Martinez.Ernesto loved to play guitar, hiking, picnicking, the Casinos, and was founder of "Fatman and the Midnight Rockers" in the 1960s. He was owner of the Santa Fe Trail, Gas Bar and Grill. Retired from the Las Vegas Police Department known as Captain Bob Martin.A Catholic, he attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus J. and Annie Rodriguez Martinez and sister, Gloria Lujan of Ft. Morgan, Colo.He is survived by his sons, Jesus "J.J." Martinez of Las Vegas, Anthony and Karen Martinez of Albuquerque, Albert and Theresa Martinez of Hooper, Utah, Armando Martinez of Las Vegas, Benny and Tiffany Martinez of Las Vegas; special life friend, Frances Quintero; brother, Erminio Martinez and wife, Corrine; sister, Mary Eva Martinez; and brother, Manny Martinez, all of Las Vegas; brother-in- law, David Lujan of Ft. Morgan, Colo.; grandchildren and also serving as honorary bearers, Brooke and Amanda Martinez; Vanessa Lynn Ortega-Martinez from Albuquerque, Branden and Kristian Martinez of Hooper, Utah, Nevaeh and Gabriel Martinez of Las Vegas; unborn great-grandson; special cousin, Joanne Walker of Sacramento, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Viewing visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on Thursday at Rogers Chapel in Las Vegas. Eulogy will be recited by Albert Martinez. Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Friday also at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father Douglas Mitchell as celebrant. Interment will be at the San Jose Cemetery in Las Vegas with the following to serve as casket bearers: George Montano, Carl Lucero, Chris Ludi, Benjie Maestas, David Vigil, Lucio Garcia, Geno Martinez and Chris Salazar.
