Ernest Constant Raskauskas Sr.Potomac, MD-Ernest Raskauskas Sr., died on October 9, 2016 at his home in Potomac, MD. He is survived by his wife, Catherine K. Raskauskas, eight sons and daughters: Ernest Jr. (Rafael Convit), Joseph, Francis (Barbara), Mary Lukach (Carl), Theresa, Thomas (Kelly), John (Catherine) and Ann; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was born on December 2, 1927 in the steel town of Vandergrift, PA to immigrant Lithuanian parents. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea, and went on to study in Washington, DC at the Catholic University of America where he obtained bachelor and law degrees. His law practice was in Washington, DC and Maryland, and he served as President of the DC American Trial Lawyers Association. He took up real estate development in Bethany Beach, DE where he developed Bethany West and numerous other residential and commercial properties. He founded Seneca House, an alcohol rehabilitation center in Seneca, MD which was acquired by Medlantic Health Care, where he served several terms on the board. This organization became the current MedStar Health. He often expressed his gratitude for 55 years of sobriety and spirituality through AA. He was active in many charitable organizations as a hands-on volunteer, such as The Gift of Peace House, a hospice for AIDS patients in Washington, DC for which he and his wife made and donated dinners twice a month for residents and staff, for many years, as well as at SOME (So Others Might Eat). He also participated in the scouting organizations of his children. He and his wife established a home for orphan and at-risk children's programs in Sateikiai, Lithuania, the village from which his father emigrated, and supported numerous other at-risk children's programs in that country. He was honored by Republic of Lithuania for his work by the awarding of the Order of Gediminas.A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac, MD 20854. Immediately following, there will be a reception at the Parish. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to: Seneca House (Lithuanian Children's Fund), 7726 Laurel Leaf Dr., Potomac, MD 20854.
