MONGO — Ernest Alvin Rhinesmith, 82, of Mongo died Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Mr. Rhinesmith was a lifetime LaGrange County resident. He was empolyed at Gunthorp Farms in rural LaGrange. He had worked in management at the former Newnam/Dalton Foundry in Kendallville from 1951 to 2009. Mr. Rhinesmith was a member of Mongo United Methodist Church since 1946 holding numerous positions within the church. He was also a fireman with Mongo Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was born on March 6, 1932, in Elkhart County to Rollin and Mary B. (Mickem) Rhinesmith. On Aug. 10, 1951, in South Milford, he married Della Lorraine Bell. Mrs. Rhinesmith survives in Mongo. Also surviving are a daughter and two sons-in-law, Rhonda and Rev. James Bartlett of Mongo and Duane Bowman III of Mongo; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sherryl Rhinesmith of Wolcottville; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Sue Rhinesmith of Howe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rollin Rhinesmith and Mary B. Rhinesmith-Ruff; and two daughters, Debra K. Miller and Mary C. Bowman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mongo United Methodist Church, 3255 N. S.R. 3, Mongo, with the Rev. James Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow at Mongo Community Cemetery in Mongo. Visitation will be today from 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Memorials are to Mongo United Methodist Church.
