Ernest E. ZegerCarlisleErnest E. Zeger, 88, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in Thornwald Home, Carlisle, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 30, 1928 in Chambersburg, and was a son of the late David and Ruth (Neikirk) Zeger. He was married to the love of his life Mary A. (Prescott) Zeger, who passed away on May 24, 1996. Ernie graduated in 1946 from Chambersburg High School. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Commerce in 1950 from Grove City College. In 1951, he earned his Master's degree in Governmental Administration from the Wharton Graduate Division, University of Pennsylvania. Ernie proudly served as a Major in the U.S. Air Force and USAF Reserve. Ernie dedicated 37 years serving the City of Philadelphia. He held positions that included Senior Budget Examiner, Administrative Officer of the Fire Department, General Director of Philadelphia General Hospital and Executive Director of Philadelphia Nursing Home. Ernie was recognized with numerous professional awards and distinctions, including serving as the President of the Chamber of Commerce of West Philadelphia and President of the State Association of Nursing Home Administrators. Ernie was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Carlisle. He loved spending time with family, playing golf and the companionship of his dachshund, Maggie. He is survived by two devoted daughters, Sally Clark of Devon and Debby (husband, Chip) Burt of Bumpass, VA; four grandchildren, Joshua Clark, Jessica Clark, Lindsay Burt and Wesley (wife, Karen) Burt; and one great-granddaughter, Mila Clark. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert and Frederick Zeger. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be on Friday October 27 at 10 a.m. in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Boiling Springs. The Memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the St. John's Episcopal Church, 1A North Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Adam Kradel officiating.
