We are gathered here today to celebrate the life and legacy of Ernie Perez, who passed away on May 25, 2024, at the age of 94 in San Bernardino, California. Born on May 7, 1930, to his beloved mother Antonia and father, Ernie lived a full and adventurous life filled with love, laughter, and a few tall tales.
After graduating from Texas High School in 1948, Ernie continued his education at Texas A&M, where he honed his skills and developed a love for flying. He went on to serve as a United States Airforce Pilot, eventually retiring in 1953 with the rank of Major. Ernie's time in the Airforce was a source of great pride for him, and he often regaled his family with tales of his adventures in the sky.
When he wasn't in the air, Ernie loved indulging in his favorite hobbies like fishing, shooting, and watching classic western movies. He loved sharing stories with his family and friends, always managing to bring a smile to everyone's face. He had a quick wit and a playful spirit that endeared him to all who knew him.
Ernie was a proud father and grandfather and is survived by his sons and daughters Nancy Aracely Waldroup, Gloria Alison Hawkins, Daniel Eric Perez, and Matthew Emil Perez. He has 9 surviving grandchildren Cheyenne Perez, Wendie Lewis, John Byrne, Naomi Wilson, Matthew Perez II, Ivan Brenham, James Brenham, Bradley Hawkins, Brian Jackson and Natalie Jackson. He is also preceded in death by grandchildren Rachel Lynn Jackson (31), and Clinton (Tre') Hawkins III (36) and great grandchild Anaya Wilson (9). He has 27 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, friends and family. Ernie was the beloved spouse of Yolanda Perez whom he loved and married in 2018 and gained 4 additional sons and daughters Miguel Sosa, Eddie Sosa, Yolanda Sosa and Valerie Sosa and loved them like his own.
Though Ernie may no longer be with us, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him. We will always remember him with a smile and a fond memory, cherishing the laughter and joy he brought into our lives and will be remembered for the kind, sweet and caring person he was.
In honor of Ernie's memory, please raise a glass, share a laugh, and remember the joy he brought into our lives. Rest in peace, Ernie Perez.
