Schmidt, Ervin C.Ervin C. Schmidt, age 88, of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, passed away Thursday November 3, 2016 at Arborview Court Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids. Private family services will be held at a later date.Ervin was born on May 30, 1928 in Nekoosa, Wisconsin to the late Carl and Minnie (Kuhn) Schmidt. He married Lila Mancl on August 4, 1951. Ervin served his country in the U.S. Army from November 25, 1950 - November 8, 1952. He was stationed in Germany during his active duty time. He went on to serve in the Army Reserves from November 9, 1952 until March 4, 1957. He worked at Nekoosa Papers in Port Edwards for over 41 years, retiring on December 31, 1987. Ervin enjoyed fishing, camping, winter vacationing in Florida for over 22 years, traveling the U.S. in their RV, traveling to Europe and Mexico and taking a Caribbean Cruise. He loved polka music and going to dances. One of Ervin's greatest interests was carving wooden birds. He carved birds of all types such as small song birds, flamingos and pheasants. Ervin is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Lila, daughters Debbie (Jerry) Stelzer of Wisconsin Rapids and Cindy Amarie of Princeton, MN; grandchildren Jeff (Shelley) Stelzer of Elkhorn, WI and their children Alexandra Albright of North Carolina, Mason and Owen Stelzer of Elkhorn, WI, Lisa (Nick) Blanchard of Grand Junction, CO and their children Lucas and Carson Blanchard, Ryan (Stacey) Stelzer of Lake Geneva, WI, Amy (Bryan) Stueck of Sun Prairie, WI and their child Makenna Stueck, Ross Bodger of Brooklyn Center, MN and Andrew Bodger of East Palo Alto, CA. He is further survived by his sister Dorothy (Doug) Regalia of Wisconsin Rapids and daughter-in-law Lee Messar and her children Eric and Alyssa. He is preceded in death by his parents and son Robert "Bob" Schmidt. Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids is assisting the family with arrangements.
