Ervin Lee Scales, Sr. affectionately known as "Big Daddy" was born on April 19, 1931 in Holly Bluff, Mississippi. He was the &it of 9 children born to Rev. Sam Boyd Scales, Sr, and Alafair Garrett scale parents and six siblings, five sisters Ruby M. Smith, Lue Bertha Glenn, Mary Lee Newson, Lunessie Mg Mattie Mae Davis; one brother Rev. Sam Scales, Jr. preceded him in death.
Ervin completed his education at an early age. He had a love for learning and acquired skills in many different types of trades. He was a craftsman and liked working with his hands.
On July 18, 1951 in Yazoo City, Mississippi; Ervin married the love of his life and soul-mate, Carrie Lee Dillard, who preceded him in death. To this union six children were born, Ervin Jr., Timmie, Belinda, Barbara, Pattie and Carolyn. Ervin, Sr. and Carrie extended their family love and caring to four additional children, Jessie, Sheila, Michael and Cheree, whom they raised.
Ervin was employed by Joseph Construction Company, where he retired after many years of hard work, After retirement, he was able to fully enjoy two of his main hobbies and methods of relaxation, that of watching Westerns on television and going fishing.
Ervin confessed Christ at an early age. He joined Union Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L.S. Saul. In 1953, he became a charter member of the New Foundation Church where he served as a Deacon, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. C. L. Brookins. He also sang in the choir, the Male Chorus and served on the Pastor's Aide Board. He was a repair man and painter for the church. Ervin did and was willing to do whatever tasks that needed to be done Tor the Church, in the House of the Lord. Ervin continued his Deaconship at True Foundation Transformation Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr.
Larry A. Brookins. He was a faithful member and devoted Deacon until his health failed.
Deacon Scales was a polished dresser and a praying man. Deacon Scales loved the Lord and "going beyond the veil" in prayer to the Lord. Many people liked to hear him pray and were forever changed by his prayers.
Deacon Scales was a hard worker and loved his family very, very much. He always prayed for his children, his children's children and the following 'train' (which means for the ones to come). Deacon Scales was an Ambassador for Christ, wanting all those in his family and those whom he met to be saved.
On Friday, July 28, 2023 Ervin Lee Scales, Sr. was peacefully transitioned to his Heavenly Home in the arms of Jesus, where he is now a part of the Heavenly Host of Angels.
Those who remain to cherish Ervin, Sr. fond memories and legacy of love are his devoted son Ervin, Jr.
(Dorothy) Scales; son, Timmie (Tonya) Scales; four daughters, Belinda Hunter, Barbara A. (Clavon) Davis;
Pattie K. Scales; Carolyn Scales; Jessie, Sheila, Michael and Cheree; two loving sisters Mary Frances Brookins (Dr. Clarence L.), Annie Mae Edwards; twenty-two grandchildren; seventy-one great grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; five sister-in-laws; five brother-in-laws; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family, extended family and friends, who loved him very much. He will sadly be missed.
