A gathering of friends and family will be 3-5:00 p.m. June 2, 2017 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way in Ames. Eugene Arnold Christenson was born on June 28, 1930, in McCallsburg, Iowa the son of Arnold and Clara Christenson. He graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1948. Gene served in the Korean Conflict from 1951 until 1952 in the US Army. In October, of 2016, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, The Korean Service Medal, Three Bronze Stars and the United Nation Service Medal, by the Veterans Fellowship Program delivered by David Allan of Iowa Senator Charles Grassley's office. He married Jacqueline McClure Sydnes on December 5, 1964 in Bethany, Missouri. He worked for the City of Ames as the Superintendent of the Water Department for over 35 years. He enjoyed playing golf at Homeward Golf Course in Ames and tinkering on cars.Gene is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Christenson of Ames, children, Theresa (Merwyn) Dyer of Indianola, David (Barb) Christenson of Minneapolis, Kathy (Brian) Sorenson of Ames, Steve (Karen) Sydnes of Ankeny, Karen (Todd) Andersen of Ames, and Michelle (Randy) Ralls of Branson. 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, a sister, Connie Johnson of McCallsburg.He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Randy Christenson.In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to: Israel Family Hospice House Homeward Hospice Mary Greeley Foundation.Online condolences may be directed to
