Eva Maria Zimmerman, 87, passed away on January 01, 2022, New Years Day. Holidays and
family were her greatest joys, and we already miss the wonder she radiated during these special times. Eva died from dementia and other complications. She was born to Paul Ernst Otto Reimer and Martha Margaret (Seifert) Reimer on June 27, 1934 in Neuruppin, Germany. Eva attended school in Kossenblatt, Germany. She later trained as a medical technician and worked in doctor’s offices in Berlin, Germany.
In Berlin, she met Robert J. Zimmerman while he was stationed there in the United States Army Company K, 6th Infantry. She joined him in the states by coming over on the SS United
States — the biggest ocean liner built by America, holding the record as the fastest liner to cross the Atlantic. Robert and Eva married in LaGrange, Missouri on Nov. 2, 1957.
The couple moved to Rockford, IL in 1961, where they raised two children; Kim Patricia Bouweraerts (Reno, NV, spouse Daniel Bouweraerts) and Christopher R. Zimmerman (Saline, MI,
spouse Michael Losey). Eva and her sister Rose became United States citizens on Nov. 10, 1970. Eva and Robert eventually retired and moved to Reno, NV in 1996. Eva is survived by her husband Robert, two children, two grandchildren Melody Eva Leiva (Reno, NV, spouse Matias Leiva) and Lorraine Rose Fye (Phoenix, AZ, spouse Timothy Fye), and a great grandchild (Ryker Eli Leiva).
Eva’s family and friends remember her as a kindhearted, sweet, and generous soul who loved
and cherished her extended family, children, and grandchildren. Eva was most happy on a sunny day working in her garden and organizing many get-togethers for loved ones and those dear to
them. She was a fantastic cook. We will celebrate Eva’s life in a private family memorial gathering the afternoon of Sunday, Jan. 16 at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1660 Grandview Avenue, Reno, Nevada 89503.
