Eva Salazar Pedroza, a long-time resident of Calexico, California passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, November 27, 2016 in Chula Vista, California. She was 89. Mrs. Pedroza was born on April 14, 1927 in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico to Ramón Salazar and Maria Refugio Camarena. On November 26, 1942, she married former Calexico Fire Chief and City Manager Froilan S. "Pete" Pedroza. Mrs. Pedroza passed away one day after what would have been her and the "Chief's" 74th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Pedroza, who was affectionately known as "Mother Eve," worked at Western Auto, JC Penney, and Fed Mart in Calexico. A devout Catholic, Mrs. Pedroza is remembered as loving and caring. She possessed a God-given singing voice and was known for sharing song and laughter in family and social gatherings. Mrs. Pedroza had a zest for life and a unique sense of humor. Her culinary skills were unmatched as was her taste for fashion. It is believed that she would make an occasional trip to local casinos as well. Mrs. Pedroza is survived by her four children; Yolanda Diaz (Art) of San Jose, CA, George "Tochi" Pedroza (Terrie) of Descanso, CA, Sonia Jaramillo (Adolfo-deceased) of Chula Vista, and Javier S. "Harvey" Pedroza (Yolanda) of Tucson, AZ; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters; Irene Baez and Dora Camarena, both of Calexico, and brother Arnoldo Salazar of Mexicali. She was preceded in death by "Chief" Pedroza; her brother, Manuel Salazar and sister Aida Tamayo. Rosary will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico (135 Fourth Street, Calexico, CA 92231) followed by a mass at 12 noon, officiated by FF Father Efraín Bautista and Miguel Campos. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico immediately after the mass. Mrs. Pedroza's family wishes to thank all the people who were part of her life and for their thoughts and prayers.
