In the evening of Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, minutes after praying The Lord's Prayer and placing flowers on the grave of her son Felipe, on the second anniversary of his entrance into Heaven and the eve of the 29th anniversary of the death of her husband Felipe, Evelyn grasped their outstretched hands and answered the call of her Savior Jesus to shine in the Glory of God the Father. Evelyn Diane Aragon was born on June 6, 1951, to Nick and Helen Aragon in Las Vegas. She was the little sister and best friend of Patricia Aragon-Roybal and big sister of Nick Aragon Jr. In 1969, Evelyn graduated from West Las Vegas High School. She then went on to Kansas to train to be a flight attendant before moving to Denver where she earned her B.A. in Spanish literature from the University of Colorado. During her studies at the University of Colorado, Evelyn studied abroad at the University of Vera Cruz in Xalapa, Vera Cruz, Mexico. She took every opportunity to explore and experience Mexico to the fullest with her closest friends. Evelyn returned from Denver to help her parents run the family business, Nick and Helen's Package and Liquor. In the mid 1970s Evelyn met the man to whom she would devote her life, Felipe Padilla. Evelyn and Felipe were blessed with their first son Felipe Espiridion Cosme Padilla Jr. on Jan. 10, 1979. Their second son, Francisco Enrique Padilla completed their family on Nov. 21, 1985. On Sept. 21, 1986, Evelyn suffered the devastating loss of her husband Felipe. Evelyn's strength, faith, and family carried her through that difficult time. She then began working for the State of New Mexico Tax and Revenue Department. She continued on to work for the Aging and Long Term Care Department. She spent the better part of two decades driving two and from Santa Fe every day to provide for her family. She then concluded her career by working in Las Vegas with the San Miguel EDC. Evelyn's work gave her the opportunity to travel the country and meet many people who would become her friends.Evelyn is mother, daughter, sister, tia, and comadre to many. She is artist and teacher, gardener and herbalist, she is dream and spirit, consejera y cocinera. A lover of the written word, Evelyn is a poet and storyteller whose dreams inspired her many personal and private writings, sketches, and watercolors. Evelyn is devout en su fe Catolico de Nuevo Mexico and gives honor and praise to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, our Blessed Mother Mary, and her Patron Saint Jude. Beloved by many, both friends and family, Evelyn is preceded in death by her son: Felipe Padilla Jr.; her father: Nick Aragon; her sister: Patsy Aragon-Roybal; her brother: Nick Aragon Jr.; her husband: Felipe Padilla Sr. y suegros: Antonia y Luis Padilla; consentido: Daniel Russell. Today we rejoice as she joins them in Heaven. Evelyn is survived by her loving son: Francisco Padilla; her mother: Helen Aragon; y querido: Gerald Garduño and by many cherished members of her extended family. In order to celebrate her life, a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows in Las Vegas. Mass was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico. Interment will follow at the San Jose Cemetery. ?
