Evelyn L. BurnsPoughkeepsie - Evelyn L. Burns of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Saturday, August 26, 2017 at home. She was 88.Daughter of the late Arthur and Evelyn Trask Bayer, she was born on July 31, 1929 in Yonkers. She was predeceased by her husband Richard J. Gillespie on October 13, 1967 and her husband Wilford T. (Scotty) Burns, Jr. on October 24, 1993.Evelyn worked at a local nursing home before she was married. Most recently, she worked as a cashier for South Road Pharmacy in Wappingers Falls. In her spare time, Evelyn enjoyed crocheting and was an avid bowler; in her younger days, she league bowled in Wappingers Falls and Fishkill. She also enjoyed playing cards. Evelyn was a longtime parishioner of The Church of St. Denis in Hopewell Junction.Survivors include her daughters, Maureen L. Sartori of Wallkill and Colleen A. Talbot of Beacon; son-in-law, Bill Costine of Beacon; brother-in-law, Peter Lyons of Poughkeepsie; grandchildren, Heather Muller and her husband, Michael, Melissa Sokota and her husband, Thomas, Shannon Sartori and Shayne Talbot; and great-grandchildren, Amber, Aidan, Rachael, Gavin and Anthony.In addition to her husbands, Evelyn was predeceased by her great granddaughter, Madison Muller, daughter, Maria Costine and her sister, Lorraine Lyons.Family will receive their friends on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered following visitation on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at The Church of St. Denis, 602 Beekman Road in Hopewell Junction.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Evelyn's name to the , 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202,
