Evelyn Marie Sanford LANTANA-Mrs. Evelyn Marie Sanford (n e Schilkofski) died peacefully at home on Oct. 24, 2016, in Lantana, Texas, at the age of 91. Evelyn is survived by her devoted husband, William Logan Sanford, of Lantana, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Jeffrey Grimes of Western Springs, IL; her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Kelly Sanford of Knoxville, TN; and her son and daughter-in-law, David and Sheryn Sanford of Lantana, Texas. She was affectionately known as Gaga by her beloved grandchildren, David Memmott, Stephen Small, Emily Sanford, Jackson Small, Laura Sanford, Ashley Sanford and Austin Sanford. She is also survived by her sister, La Vern Punke and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. Evelyn was born on Nov. 6, 1924, in Bloomington, IL. She married William Logan Sanford, who harbored an enormous crush on her from afar at their place of employment, Union Auto Insurance Company. They married in June of 1953 and our dad continued to adore her for the next 63 years. Our mom was a homemaker without peer. She was talented, artistic, creative and indefatigable. Her artistry lives on through her ceramics, cross stitch, painted furniture and for years in Downers Grove, Illinois, the fire hydrants bore the painted likenesses of the Founding Fathers which she painstakingly recreated in honor of our nation's 200th birthday. Evelyn's other great love was for her church, St. Elizabeth's located in Lubbock, Texas. In over thirty years of worship and service, she administered the sacrament of the Eucharist as a Eucharistic Minister during Mass, in the local hospital and at nursing homes, led the Rosary on Saturday nights, witnessed the Adoration of the Eucharist at Christ the King Cathedral, cooked for funeral receptions and collected money and clothing for the babies of mothers who asked for help from her parish. She was unselfish in the sharing of her time and considerable talent. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by www.unbound.org. Condolences may be sent to the Sanford family at 9131 Cedar Ridge, Lantana, TX, 76226. You are also welcome to sign the online guestbook at www.mulkeymasonlewisville.com.
