Evelyn (Pug) Mearl BatesNEW CONCORD: Evelyn (Pug) Mearl Bates passed away on Monday, March 14th, 2016 at 5:45PM at the Beckett House in New Concord; where she had resided since May, 2011. She was born on June 28th, 1929 to Eddie and Velva Bates in Noble County. The family moved to New Concord area in the late 1930's. She was a graduate of the New Concord High School, Class of 1947, and a member of the College Drive Presbyterian Church. She retired after 36 years at Brockway Glass in Zanesville. Her greatest joy was expressed in her relationship with her nieces and nephews. She followed closely their academic and sports activities, and took great pride in their achievements.In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her twin brother, Everett (Andy) Bates, her sister, Dorothy Spencer, of St. Louis, Missouri, her brother, Harold Elmo (Mary) Bates of Cambridge, and her brother, Dr. James Bates, of Pennsylvania, who passed away January 27th, 2016.She is survived by her brother, Roger Bates, of New Concord, her sisters-in-law Laura Bates, of New Concord, and Elizabeth Bates, of Danville, PA; several nieces and nephews including, Randy (Joyce) Bates, of Cambridge, and Jon (Mary) Bates, of New Concord.Friends and family are welcome to attend calling hours for Evelyn at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord on Friday, March 18th from 2 to 3:30PM, burial will follow at the New Concord Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the College Drive Presbyterian Church on June 25th at 1PM, with Rev. Anne Weirich officiating.
