LAURINBURG — Evelyn Blalock Walters, age 75 of Laurinburg passed away at her home with her family by her side on Feb. 16, 2015.
Evelyn was the daughter of the late Floyd P. and Zela Mangum Blalock born on Sept. 4, 1939 in Harnett County. She was the devoted wife to the late Luther "Marvin" Walters Jr., who preceded her in death in 2013. She was a graduate of Coats High School, where she was only absent one day during her school career, and then attended Atlanta Christian College. She loved her hometown of Angier, before making Laurinburg her home. She and her late husband had distinguished careers as professional photographers, the owners of Family Studios formerly in Raleigh, retiring after many years of service in 2007. She formerly served as a member of the Temple Baptist in Raleigh and currently served as a faithful active member of the Saint Luke United Methodist Church where she enjoyed volunteering in all areas of service, especially the children's nursery. Evelyn loved sharing time with her family and caring for her canine companion, Ann.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Allen Williams and a brother, Milton C. Blalock.
Evelyn is survived by daughters Tanya W. Williams and husband Allen of Laurinburg, Teresa W. Murphy and husband Jay of Emerald Isle; a brother, Donald R. Blalock of Colfax; sister, Sylvia B. Elliott of Summerfield and two grandsons, Alex Williams and Colton Williams.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Saint Luke United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Billy Olsen. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. A private interment will be at a later date at the Historical Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
