Faye Abernathy Lail, 95, of Maiden, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at The Addison of Lincolnton.

She was born February 16, 1929 in Mecklenburg County to the late Gorman and Etra Mae Parker Abernathy. Faye left school at 15 to work and help support her family. Twenty years later she earned her GED, took classes in floral arranging and cake decorating, and later obtained her CNA so she could take care of her mother.

Faye was a very talented seamstress. After working for years in the mills, she pursued her dream of sewing for the public. She could design and make formal wear and clothing for children, and worked in alterations for Magic Cleaners in Maiden. Faye was a member of Lawing’s Chapel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, GA’s, sang in the choir, and volunteered wherever she was needed. She found blessings in helping others, and enjoyed gardening and cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Joe D. Lail; daughter, Kathy Lail Houser; son, Ricky Joe Lail; brothers, William “Bill” Abernathy and Blaine Abernathy; and sister, Helen A. Huffman.

11 Grandchildren: Jennifer “Nikki” Mitchell (Billy), Joseph Lail (Alayna), Megan Green (Neil), Timothy Lail, Kara Law, Ethan Davis, Camryn Davis, Trent Davis, Josh Stamey (Jessica), Kenneth Simpson Jr., and Angela Smith

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the caring, compassionate staff of The Addison of Lincolnton and VIA Health Partners.

A service to celebrate Faye’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Lawing’s Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden. Rev. Jason Canipe will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Lawing’s Chapel Baptist Church.
