Remembering Faye Genova

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Faye Genova (nee Gulota) of Dyer, IN (formerly of Calumet City), who passed away at her home on February 23, 2023 at the age of 81.

She was the beloved mother of Joe (Ruth) Genova, Jerry (Rosemaria DiBenedetto) Genova, Julie (Dave) Ewers, and Joanne (Phil) Alonzo, devoted grandmother of 13 grandchildren, and proud great-grandmother to 9. She is survived by her sisters Rose Ellen Magdos and Joanne (Joe) McCluskey; her brother Paul (Cheryl) Gulota; sister-in-laws Marie (Van) Venditti,  Josephine (Rev. Mark Pavlina) Genova Pavlina; her brother-in-law Michael (Emily) Genova; her cherished friends Marie and Paul Grisafi, and Yolanda and Thomas Marrant; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Joseph Genova, her sisters, Paula (Phillip) Sukta, Mary Lou (John) Rachoy, her sister-in-law Vita Genova, and her parents, Frances and Paul Gulota Sr.

Faye was born on September 12, 1941 in Hammond, IN. As the oldest of six children, Faye took on the responsibility of being a caregiver from a young age. She helped raise her siblings, always putting their needs before her own. Her kind and selfless nature was evident in everything she did, and she continued to care for others throughout her life.

Faye was a remarkable woman with a gift for making everyone feel welcome and accepted. Throughout her 81 years, she taught us what it means to be a good person. She led by example, showing us how to be kinder, more empathetic, and understanding of those around us. Her home was a place where people came together, where love and warmth filled every corner. Her door was always open to family, friends, and strangers alike to share stories and laughter. She was the heart of our family, and her generosity and kindness knew no bounds.

Faye touched the lives of all who knew her, and was loved completely. Although we will miss her dearly, we can find comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her husband of fifty years, Joe, and many loved ones who have passed before her. We will forever hold her memory close to our hearts, and we will strive to live up to the example she set for us.

A celebration of Faye’s life will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 2pm - 5pm at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN conducted by Rev. Gino Magdos.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to benefit the St. Jude Children's Hospital. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/memorial.
