Faye Loretta HickmanSalisbury-Faye Loretta Hickman, age 83, died on October 19, 2017 at Greenfield Assisted Living of Bel Air, Maryland, after a long struggle with dementia. Faye was born on November 30, 1933, in Laurel, DE, a daughter of the late Ernest and Elsie Hickman of Delmar. Ms. Hickman was a 1951 graduate of Delmar High School where she played sports and was involved in other school activities. Ms. Hickman retired from the Wicomico County Board of Education in 1993. She served as a teacher's aide for many years, and at the time of her retirement she was working at James M. Bennett Senior High School. Ms. Hickman enjoyed traveling and dining out. She sang in many choirs from the time she was a young teen until her late 70s. She was a volunteer for the Christian Shelter in Salisbury, in various capacities at Deer's Head Hospital Center, as well as serving at her church, Providence Presbyterian Church of Salisbury, MD. She had a love of dancing all of her life, as well as gardening. She had a gift for flower arranging, as well as creating beautiful wreaths.She is survived by her two beloved daughters, Christine (Davis) Hoffman and her husband, Dale Hoffman, of Princess Anne, MD, and Terri (Davis) Schmidt and her husband, Neil Schmidt, of Pylesville, MD (Harford County). She is also survived by three cherished granddaughters, Shannon Hoffman and her fiancé, David Nixon, of Princess Anne, MD, Kimberly Hoffman of Salisbury, MD, and Megan Schmidt de Wit and her husband, Shawn de Wit, of Baltimore, MD, and by several great grandchildren. She is survived by her older sister whom she dearly loved, Marguerite Webb of Dover, DE, and two nieces, Sue Killen of Felton, DE, and Debbie Devine of Dover, DE.Faye's faith in her precious Savior, Jesus, helped her throughout her life even to the end, and her greatest desire was for all of her family to have a saving knowledge of and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. A graveside service will immediately follow in St. Stephens Cemetery in Delmar. Pastor John Manry will officiate.In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Faye's memory to the , 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093 or to The Christian Shelter, 334 Barclay Street, Salisbury, MD 21804.Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
