OELHAUPL, FerdinandFerdinand (Fred) Oelhaupl passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta with family members at his side on Monday, November 21, 2016 at the age of 89 years. Fred was born on July 11, 1927, in Calgary, to Ferdinand and Marie (nee Berce) Olhaupl. His siblings are Alfred Oelhaupl (deceased) and Anna Dupris. In 1946, at the age of 19, Fred first learned First Aid with St John's Ambulance. In August 1951 Fred joined the Calgary Fire Department. He stayed with the department for 36 years, retiring at the rank of Captain in 1987. He was presented with the Fire Service Exemplary Service Medal of Canada on December 1986. The love and pride of having served as a Calgary firefighter never left him. He will be fondly remembered for his many stories and his support of many charities such as the Calgary Zoo, Canadian Federation of Sports Organizations for the Disabled, Save the Children fund of Canada and the Canadian Wildlife Federation, to name a few. He is survived by his children; Dennis, Kathy (Hamel), David, Theresa (Fontaine) and Danny and their spouses. He was blessed with numerous grandchildren; Tonya, Jayson, Adam, Adrian, Bonnie, Krystle, Melissa, Kyla, Joshua and Ashley, along with great-grandchildren; Kaleb, Alex, Holly and Ethan. He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-seven years, Katherine (Katie) (nee Kutach) who passed away on April 6, 2009. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. Pius X Parish, 2424 - 24 Avenue N.W., Calgary, on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception. A viewing will be available starting at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society, http://cfbts.org/ donate-to-cfbts/ or the Salvation Army Alberta and Northern Territories, 9618 – 101A Avenue Edmonton, AB T5H 0C7.
