Fermin Gonzales, 102, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, passed away at his daughter's home in Las Cruces on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014.Fermin was born on May 24, 1912 to the union of Jose Maria Gonzales and Rosaline Noemi Allemand Gonzales, who precede him in death along with his siblings, Teresita Castillo, Noemi Tapia, Donilia Baros, Isidro Gonzales and Santiago Gonzales. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Estella Gonzales; son, Major Joe C. Gonzales; grandson, Lee Clyatt and great-grandson, Jeffrey Daugherty.He is survived by his children, Dolores Hignite, Prescilla Clyatt, Rosaline Shapiro (Barrie), Grace Gonzales-Small, Geraldine Chavez (Felix), Ida Yara (Robert), Shireen McDonald, Laurie Gabaldon, Loyola Bailey (Jeff); and David McDonald; 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Friday) at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church on Saturday as follows: Rosary will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by celebration of the funeral Mass at 1 p.m. by Father Bob Peccatiello. Interment will follow the Mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
