Filiberto ""Gene"" Roybal, 88, of Las Vegas, passed away on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013.Filiberto was born on March 18, 1925 in Beulah. N.M., to the late Filiberto Roybal, Sr. and Anna Maria Aragon. He is preceded in death by his parents as well as his wife by 21 days, Pauline ""Polly"" Roybal; siblings, Amada Roybal and Margie Roybal and step-daughter Shirley Montez.Filiberto was an U.S. Army Veteran who was very involved with the local VFW and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. He is survived by his children, Gerry Roybal and wife, Su of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Sandi Maestas of Las Tusas; granchildren, Garrett Roybal and Melanie Maestas; great-granddaughter Iesha Maestas and great-great-grandsons, Luciano and Pablo Cordova; brothers, Joe Roybal and wife, Mary, Cleto Roybal and sister, Cleo Noel, all of Las Vegas.Funeral services for Filiberto are as follows: a rosary will be recited by Los Hermanos de San Ignacio at 6 p.m. on Sunday at Nelson Funeral Home.
