Florence Louise Macut Obituary

Feb 06, 1929 - Jan 05, 2017

This obituary is administered by:

Florence Louise MacutFebruary 5, 1929 - November 5, 2017

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd., for Florence Louise Macut, who passed away peacefully at home on November 5, 2017.

Florence was born on February 5, 1929 in Monterey to Herbert and Mary McGrew Montgomery. She spent two years of her life in Monterey; the other 86 in Bakersfield. Florence went to Bakersfield High School, then worked as a bookkeeper before she met the love of her life, John Macut, at a Bakersfield barn dance. They were married 48 years before he passed away in 1999.

A devoted mother to Mike, Bev, and Joe; and a proud grandmother of Melanie, Crystal, Mary, Sarah, and Josh; Florence took special joy in becoming a great-grandmother to Dylan, Emily, Abby, Caitlyn, and Charlie. She loved spending time with her family and traveling the world. Her favorite destinations were Hawaii, Alaska, Greece, and the Panama Canal.

Florence had a passion for community service. Beginning as a stay-at-home mother who volunteered at the local PTA, she later became president of the California 7th District PTA. She was a member of the North of the River Women's Club, as well as the Bakersfield Women's Club (BWC), serving as president of both. Florence also belonged to the California Federation of Women's Clubs, the Theta Theta Chapter of the Sigma Alpha Sorority, and the Bakersfield Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 125. She was most proud of her long-term chairmanship of the BWC Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Committee as it gave her the opportunity to award scholarships to deserving young people throughout Kern County. Florence was awarded the BWC Beth Henley Award of Excellence, the NORWC L. Beatrice Kreyenhagen Service Award, and the California 7th District PTA Service Award.

God blessed Florence with a loving family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John, her son Mike, and granddaughter Melanie. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Beverly and son-in-law Robert Werling of El Dorado Hills; her son Joseph and daughter-in-law RaNay Macut of Shafter; granddaughters Crystal Powel (and husband Aaron) of Arroyo Grande, Mary Werling of Sacramento, and Sarah Werling of Folsom; grandson Joshua Macut of Shafter; and great-grandchildren Dylan Widner, Emily Macut, Abby, Caitlyn, and Charlie Powell.

Thank you to everyone for your love and support during Florence's illness, particularly her dear friends Wilma Rowles, Elaine Pizzo, and Doris Duquette; her caring neighbors Rhonda and Sean Burke and Shelly Simpson; and her chaplain Perlita Asencion. Thank you as well to the kind and supportive palliative care teams at Memorial Hospital and Hoffman Hospice who made it possible for Florence to live her last days with dignity at home surrounded by her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Florence's name to the Women's Club of Bakersfield HOBY Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 886, Bakersfield, CA 93302.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. II Timothy 4:7-8
