Florence Mae Jorgensen, 98, of Shell Rock, formerly of Waverly, died Friday, March 3, 2017, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center in Shell Rock.Florence was born on May 17, 1918, in Windsor Township, near Hawkeye, the daughter of Richard R. Strohschein and Martha Ehlert. She became a child of God on June 10, 1918, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Windsor Township and was confirmed on June 12, 1932. Florence was educated in the country schools near the family farm and then graduated from the West Union High School in 1936. Florence taught school for one year and on Dec. 25, 1938, she was united in marriage to Carl M. Jorgensen Jr., in Zion Lutheran Church, West Union. The couple farmed until 1945, when they moved into West Union. In 1950, the family moved to Waverly, where Florence worked at Infelt's Variety Store for two years, Sears Roebuck & Co. for four years, Iowa Public Service Company for over 10 years. In 1962, Florence started working for Harrison's Variety Store in Waverly until it closed in 1985. Carl died on Feb. 11, 2008, and Florence continued to live in her home on Iowa Street in Waverly.Florence is survived by her two sons, Raymond Jorgensen and his wife, Barbara, of Waterloo, Brian Jorgensen, of Cedar Falls; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Carlton in 2000, and two brothers, Clarence and Raymond Strohschein.Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Private family burial will follow in the Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held at Wednesday, March 8, from 4-6 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and for an hour prior to services at the funeral home on Thursday.
