She was born on May 31, 1920 in DeKalb and was the daughter of Bernard John and Mabel (Peters) McCabe. Florence attended DeKalb Schools, St. Mary, Gallagher and Chad, Haish, and graduated from DeKalb Township High School in 1938. She also attended Kishwaukee College. She married Frank R. Kuzan on May 31, 1943 at St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; son-in-law, Frank Metzke; brother, John McCabe; sister-in-law, Helen McCabe; mother, Mabel; father, Bernard; and grandson-in-law, Ed Setterberg. She is survived by her children, Linda L. Metzke Concord, VT, Frank B. (Sherry) Kuzan Kent, WA, John D. (Gail) Kuzan Houston, TX; grandchildren, Michele Metzke Setterberg, Greenwich, CT, Frank Metzke (Cheryl), Bronxville, NY, Mark Metzke (Melissa), Washington, DC, Pam Metzke Smale (Lyle), Patty Metzke, Sherry Metzke, Chris M. Toman (Windy), Ravensdale, WA, Jennifer L. Coe (Matthew), Maple Valley, WA, Timothy J Kuzan (Jessica), Starbuck, WA; great-grandchildren, Paige Setterberg, Brooke Setterberg, Frankie Metzke, Alison Coe, Athena Coe, Rainy Toman, Chase Toman, Amelia Coe; nephew, Richard W. McCabe (Penne), DeKalb, IL; nieces, Marlene Luciani (Dave), Delavan, WI, and Billie Jean Hartman (Don), Harvard, IL. She worked for Secors Drug Store in DeKalb, Burlington Railway in Chicago, The Rudolph Wurlitzer Company in DeKalb, The DeKalb Public Library, The DeKalb High School Library, The Illinois State Board of Education, and The Newman Foundation. She was active member of St. Mary and Christ the Teacher Parishes. She was also active in the St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society, the St. Mary Parish council, served as Chairman of St. Mary Liturgy Commission, was a past secretary of the St. Mary Home School Association, and as minister of the Eucharist to DeKalb Area Retirement Center- Oakcrest (2 years) and DeKalb Home (6 years). She was an officer of the Sybaquay Girl Scout Council and Troop leader for 15 years. A Cub Scout den leader, assistant 4-H leader, a member of the first DeKalb Water Commission and a member of the DeKalb Planning Commission for two terms. She was also active member in the DeKalb Home Auxiliary and Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday October 25, 2016 at the Christ the Teacher University Parish 512 Normal Rd. in DeKalb at 10:30 AM with Father Jeremy Trowbridge officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 9:30 AM till the time of the service in the church.
