Floyd C. Wood, Sr., 94, of Montrose, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at his home. His wife of 60 years, Simonne L. (Berc) Wood, predeceased Floyd in in 2006. He was born on September 27, 1920 in Montrose, to the late Virgil E. and Lola M. (VanHousen) Wood. Surviving are his five children and their spouses, Shirley and Ralph Kocik, Forest Lake, Christine and Carl Moenke, Toms River, N.J., Floyd Jr. and Evelyn Wood, South Montrose, Joan and David Antol, Montrose, Sharon and Andrew Welch, Sun Prairie, Wis.; step-daughter, Bernedette Vacqueline Berc, Mexico; 10 grandchildren, Nicole (Jack) Russell, Ryan (Liz) Wilcox, Michelle (Tony) Pietanza, Denise Caputi, Cheryl (John) Pettry, Becky Moenke, Lisa (Mike) Gorman, John (Tina) Wood, Jason (Heather) Welch, Angie Welch; 14 great-grandchildren, Hayley, Jordon, and Jack Russell, Felicia and Noah Wilcox, Sammy Pietanza, Gina Caputi, Ashlan, and Caiden Pettry, Olivia and Connor Gorman, Brady Wood, Andrew and Morgan Welch; two nephews, Richard (Shari) Garris, Robert (Roberta) Garris; and cousins.Floyd was also predeceased by two sisters, Thelma Garris, and Harriette Harrower.Floyd was a proud WW II
Army veteran; he beached at Normandy and was stationed in Paris where he met his Wartime Bride, Simonne. He was an avid gardener, loved to watch deer, enjoyed cooking and baking and was famous for his pies. His grandchildren referred to him as "grandpa pumpkin."Floyd was a prominent contractor in the area; his proudest accomplishments were the Hospital and the Nursing Home which he built in Montrose.Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the East Bridgewater Cemetery. Donations in Floyd's memory can be made to: True Friends Animal Welfare Shelter or to the Little White Community Church at Heart Lake.
