While teaching in Zanesville she served as District Director of Children's Work until the Methodist Church changed its approach to Christian education. After retirement she was not satisfied and so she went to MAJVS and studied to be a nurse's aide, but when she applied she was asked to be the Resident Services Director at the Helen Purcell Home. She thoroughly enjoyed her association with the Helen Purcell Home for nearly 30 years. Her joy was serving others. She volunteered at Bethesda Hospital for many years as well as at the Helen Purcell Home after retiring from her director position. She received many community awards, including the Women of Achievement Award from the Muskingum County Y. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma education society and the A.A.U.
