Frances Armstrong, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 5. She was born on August 8, 1921 in Plymouth, Mass to Margaret Errington and Richard Baxter Brown. Except for two years during WW II, she lived her whole life in Plymouth. Two years ago she moved to The Cedars, a Senior Care facility in Portland Maine. Frances married Douglas Armstrong on November 28, 1943. Both had grown up in Plymouth, and they were both devoted to the community. Frances was a member of Christ Episcopal Church all her life. She served on the Altar Guild for 65 years, sang in the choir and was Treasurer of Christ Church Guild. She was a Lifetime Member of the Plymouth Antiquarian Society, Plymouth Fragment Society, the Garden Club, the Black and White Club. She was on the board of the Ryder Home. She graduated from Plymouth High School, class of 1939 and was the secretary and planned all the reunions for that class until 2008. She graduated from Katharine Gibbs School in Boston, after which she worked as an executive secretary at Plymouth Cordage Company, and later as a Blue Cross/Blue Shield bookkeeper at Jordan Hospital. She also worked researching genealogies for the Society of Mayflower Descendants. Frances was an avid bridge player, right into her 90s, playing regularly with dear friends she had known all her life. Frances and Doug spent many happy years together. They were very involved in the community of Plymouth their entire lives. In later life they enjoyed trips to Austria, Portugal, England, Scotland and Mexico. Frances was predeceased by her husband Doug in 2002, as well as her brother Errington Brown, and her sister Isabel. She is survived by her son Douglas Jr. and wife Susan of New York City, daughter Marcia Kimpton and husband Tim of Waldoboro, Maine, and her beloved grandchildren, who knew her as Brownie; Andrew Seaver of Seattle, WA, Laura Maley of South Portland, ME, Holly Truitt of Missoula, MT, and 5 great grandchildren | Theo and Susanna, Zoe and Elliott, and Finn, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Plymouth, on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frances memory to Christ Church Parish, 149 Court Street, Plymouth MA 02360.
