Frances L SextonAtlanta , GASEXTON, FRANCES LANIEVE - 75, of Knoxville, TN, completed her earthly race on Thursday, May 18, 2017 after an extraordinary 18-year battle with cancer. Frances was born on March 16, 1942, to the late Leslie and Frances LaNieve. A 1959 graduate of West High School, Frances attended Mary Baldwin College and the University of Tennessee, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority; she received a B.S. in psychology in 1963. In 1982 Frances received a degree in computer science from U.T. and began working for Martin Marietta at Oak Ridge National Labs as a computer analyst. She was a past president of the Knoxville Junior League. In 1996 she and her daughter Susan Worthington co-founded The Southern Market, which she helped to manage until 2015.A longtime member of Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, Frances was a devoted servant of Jesus, a diligent student of Scripture, and a compassionate friend to all who knew her. She will be remembered for her radiant, contagious smile, her humble spirit, and her unwavering faith. She was both tough and tender, strong and soft, tenacious and trusting. Her family, friends, nurses and even strangers were consistently drawn to the light in her, and she always pointed them back to Jesus. Frances is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Charles F. Sexton Jr. She is survived by her brother Leslie LaNieve and his wife Nadine Martin of Warren, NJ; her daughter Susan and her husband Mark Worthington of Knoxville; her daughter Anne and her husband Rev. Walter Henegar of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Elizabeth Callaway (Callie) and Alexander Sheets Worthington, of Knoxville, and Abigail Sexton and Emily Jane Henegar of Atlanta; nieces Hardwick Sexton Kappler, Aimee LaNieve Spiers, Nicole LaNieve, and nephew Callaway Sexton. A funeral service celebrating Frances' life and anticipating her resurrection will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, May 23 at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, followed by visitation with the family at the church.
