Francisco "Frank" O. Rodriguez, 61, of Iowa St., Carlsbad, NM, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at San Jose Catholic Church. Father Francis Lazer of St. Anthony Catholic Church (Artesia) will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (new section) with Military Honors performed by the Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard. Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at San Jose Catholic Church. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. on Thursday at West Funeral Home. Services have been entrusted to West Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at westfuneralhomellc.com Frank was born on August 9, 1955 in Carlsbad, NM to Lupe and Betty (Orosco) Rodriguez and graduated from CHS in 1974. Immediately following graduation, he reported to boot camp for the United States Marine Corp and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA. In September of 1976 he married his high school sweetheart, Angie Castillo at San Jose Catholic Church and returned to CA for active duty and to start a family: Becky was born in 1977, Frankie in 1978. During his enlistment he was able to travel to Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Philippines and Alaska, he had so many new experiences while in the military, that he always encouraged his children to travel and try new things. After serving for 6 years in the Corp, he received an honorable discharge and moved the family back to Carlsbad. It was in the late 80's that he and Angie welcomed a baby boy, John (J.D). Frank started working with the Eddy County Road Crew in 1997 and participated in River Blitz, Relay for Life and many other charitable events in Carlsbad and at the Carlsbad Recreation Center. Frank had a great sense of humor, he always had a great story to tell or some new joke he had to share. He was great at giving advice and was always willing to lend a helping hand when it was needed. He is survived by his wife Angie; daughter Becky Rodriguez (Ryan), sons: Frankie (JR) Rodriguez and Johno (JD) Rodriguez; granddaughters: Olivia, Jacklyn, and Mackenzie; siblings: Josie Methola (Ray), Yolanda Marez, David Rodriguez (Evelyn) and Fidel Rodriguez (Gloria) all of Carlsbad, Angie Vasquez (Justo) and Daniel Rodriguez (Elisa) all of Texas, Rudolfo Rodriguez (Aloha), Lupe Rodriguez, Anna Rodriguez and Rosa Lopez, all of California and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by parents and his sister Nati Ramirez. Pallbearers are Sam Rocha, Pete Vasquez, David Rodriguez, Fidel Rodriguez, Henry Kramer, Bobby Parraz, Andrew Rocha and Lionel Sandate. Honorary Pallbearers are Ray Methola Sr., and Richard Perez.
