Frank Jerome Weed of Buffalo Creek passed away on Sept. 3, 2014, from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Weed, called "Jerry" by those who knew him longest, and "Frank" by those who met him after 1961, was born on Nov. 22, 1942, in Highland Park, Ill., to William Morgan and Virginia Jerome Weed.  He grew up in the Chicago suburbs; Bad Nauheim, Germany; Denver, and, of course, Buffalo Creek. Weed graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL, and earned his bachelor's degree from Hanover College in Indiana.  It was at Hanover where Weed met Patricia Nelson of Racine, Wis., whom he married in 1966.  Weed received his doctorate in sociology from the University of Missouri and went on to teach at the University of Texas at Arlington for 32 years. During that time, he published two books and other research. Weed attended the First Jefferson Unitarian Universalist Church in Fort Worth and Jefferson Unitarian Church in Golden. Even while calling Texas home for three decades, his heart remained in Buffalo Creek, where he spent time square dancing at the BPIA, hiking with friends, teaching his daughters how to drive and telling tales as tall as he was. He was an excellent trout fisherman, only fishing in Buffalo Creek and the North Fork of the South Platte. His wife frequently commented that he had the talent because he "thought like a fish." After his retirement, Weed was able to enjoy year-round living on Christmas Hill. Weed's ashes will be buried in Buffalo Creek, next to his parents and older brother, William Morgan "Bill" Weed. He is survived by his wife, Pat; daughters Teresa and Sarah; grandsons Charles "Quinn" and William, and his beloved Model A Ford, "Eloise."A memorial will be held at the Little Chapel in the Hills in the summer of 2015. For information, send an e-mail to [email protected]In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, the or the Buffalo Park Improvement Association, P.O.
