Frank Louis WaynewoodFrank Louis Waynewood, 79, of Seattle, died peacefully at home on November 26, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Kate Tate; his daughters Francis Waynewood, of Fort Worth, TX; Diane Waynewood of Seattle; Joy Waynewood, of Seattle; his granddaughter, Sasha Higashi, and her daughter, Autumn, of Kent and many other beloved relatives, including his stepfather Alonzo Burns, of Denver; his brother Freeman Waynewood of St. Paul, MN and his sister, Hazel Dolby, of Denver. He was preceded in death by his son Ronald; his mother, Louise Burns; and his father, Hayes Waynewood.Frank was born on November 15, 1937 in Abilene, TX, where he was raised and lived until relocating in 1961 to Seattle as a young adult, initially taking two jobs at once working at Boeing and Seattle Children's Home. Frank earned an undergraduate degree from Seattle University and a master's degree from the University of Washington. In his early career, Frank worked for the Black Contractors Association and was acting director of the Central Area Motivation Program (CAMP). Before retiring, he held several posts at the City of Seattle, State of Washington, and King-County METRO, including government affairs, facilities planning and safety administration.Frank engaged in civic life, serving on the board of the American Friends Service Committee and supporting the efforts to win reparations for Japanese-Americans, incarcerated in internment camps during World War II. Frank enjoyed visiting his family and traveling abroad with his wife. He especially loved jazz, often attending festivals. One of his favorite pastimes, flying kites, brought him into nature and typified Frank's exuberance for life. He was a warm, witty and loving person, who, in return was cherished by his family and friends. A celebration of Frank's life will be held on January 7, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Dakota Place, 4304 SW Dakota Street, Seattle, WA 98116. Donations in Frank's memory can be made to Seattle Children's Home.
