Beloved husband, father and grandfather Sergeant Major (Ret.) Franklin E. Kirby passed away on Oct. 14, 2016, at the age of 70, after complications from a bicycle accident that occurred on May 23, 2016. He was born on May 12, 1946, in Woodstock, Virginia, and spent much of his youth in the Hershey, Pennsylvania, area. Frank Kirby proudly served in the United States Army for over 28 years, mostly as a Combat Engineer. He spent more than half of his career overseas with duty in Korea, Vietnam and Germany. He retired in Williamsburg, Va., and eventually made St. Augustine, Florida, his home in 2010. He is survived by his wife, Herta-Mar (Tina); his two sons, Wolfgang and Kevin, their wives Amy and Christy; and six grandchildren he adored, Alex, Connor, Rebecca, Danielle, Aidan and Kaitlyn. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 5, 2016, at Craig Funeral Home in St. Augustine to be followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. SGM(R) Franklin E. Kirby will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Clyde E. Lassen State Veterans Home in St Augustine.
