Franklin E. MitchellDelmar-Franklin E. Mitchell, age 83, of Delmar, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at his home in Delmar, surrounded by his loving family.He was born on June 15, 1933 in Salisbury, a son of the late Ottis and Mabel Carey Mitchell.Mr. Mitchell worked as a conductor for Pennsylvania Railroad and Conrail for 35 years. He was a life time member of the Delmar Fire Department, Delmar VFW Post 8276, and the American Legion in Sharptown and Laurel. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching football and NASCAR. He also attended First Baptist Church in Delmar.He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Lynn Mitchell of Delmar; grandchildren, Christie Wilson (Kevin), Michelle Hammond, Michael Hammond, Kandy Truitt, and Nicole Mitchell Brommel; great grandchildren, Ian, Emily, Tyler, Kaleigh, Jerzee, and Ariana; a special cousin, Blair Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step mother, Ruth Mitchell; wife of 63 years, Betty Ellen (Johnson) Mitchell; son, David Edward Mitchell; daughter, Theresa Ellen LaBarrie; and sisters, Maybelle Farlow and Lelah Crockett.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Short Funeral Home, 13 East Grove Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. A reception will be held at the Delmar VFW, following the interment.In memory of Mr. Mitchell, contributions may be sent to Coastal Hospice, P.O.
